There is a ridiculous website called Hot or Not? The premise is that you post a picture and have people rate your hotness or lack thereof. Ridiculous. However, since we are a website design company we do ask what makes a website hot or not? What are the components that make our sites stand out from the rest?
Let me give you 5 questions that will help you determine if your website is ‘hot or not?’
1. Does Google know who you are?
This is by the far the most important question in regard to hotness. If Google doesn’t know who you are, then neither will your clients, customers, donors or visitors. A website that can be easily found is hot.
2. Is your website engaging?
In other words, is it attractive? Is there something that draws your visitors in to look and discover? Is it pleasing to look at? Because a beautiful site will have a tendency to keep attention. A beautiful, attractive and engaging site is Hot.
3. Is it inforMEtive?
So many websites have lots of information, but you need to remember that a visitor is looking for information beneficial to them. All the visitor cares about is, “Does this website have something for ME?” A website that remembers information should be inforMEtive is hot.
4. Does it keep people coming back?
A visitor that comes by once is considered luck but a visitor that comes back again is considered a potential customer, client, donor or parishioner. Websites that make people come back again are hot.
5. Does it actually tell your story?
There are so many buzz words out there like branding and marketing. Designers and consultants like to throw out these words, but what do they really mean? They simply mean story telling. Does your website tell the story that you envision of yourself, your product or company to your audience? Websites that tell an accurate story about an organization, a company or a church are hot.
